Is Sedation Safe for Kids?
Sedation In Pediatric Dental Work
With 42% of children ages 2 to 11 getting cavities, dental caries is the most common chronic disease in children. As a result, a lot of children need dental work that goes beyond routine cleaning. Some procedures require the patient to lie completely still, and the sounds of the dental tools can be scary. This is where sedation comes in so that each child can be comfortable and relaxed during their procedure.
Is Sedation Safe?
Sedation in dentistry is very safe, whether the patients are children or adults. There are several different types or levels of sedation depending on the procedure and the needs of the patient, including oral sedation, nitrous oxide (laughing gas), and intravenous sedation. Food and drink restrictions are often necessary in the hours before sedation for safety reasons, and loose-fitting clothing can help as well.
